The English medium matriculation school was started in 1985 with about
8-9 students for LKG and UKG. Today, 2006, the school has till Standard
VII with a total of 146 students. There are over 10 teachers. The school
was started for the students from the villages in the surrounding area.
An overall development of the students is aimed at according to Gandhi's
ideals and values. Various cultural, sports and academic competitions
and activities are held to aid this. For example, there are drawing and
essay competitions, a Gandhian Thought Exam, school participation in radio
programmes, sports day and cultural programmes with Thambithottam school,
visits to exhibitions, educational trips etc., The students also have
fun helping with the agricultural activities of the Trust. Plans are on
for introducing computer education also.
This school has been run on its own without any external support until
now. All the expenses are met by students fees. This is used towards maintenance
of the one hall, which is divided in to 5 classrooms, the staff compensations
and other staff of the school. Since the school has expanded, the current
needs necessitate support for the school buildings, library and toilet
facilities being planned.
