This school was one of the earliest initiatives of the Gandhigram being established in 1949. Located in the Gandhigram campus, this primary school provides free education from the pre-school to the 5th standard. The syllabus is based on the Tamilnadu state board. Currently (2006-07), the school has a staff strength of 11 teachers and a total of over 440 students (boys about 240 and girls about 200). The students hail from the surrounding villages.

7000 students have passed out till date. A major security / benefit for the students here is that once they join here they have a sure admission in the Thambithottam Higher Sec. School for the higher classes and also on to college. Most of them join Thambithottam Higher Secondary School from here.

Education is aimed at an over-all development of the children based on Gandhian ideals - simple living and high thinking, community work, dignity of labour. The students have the sarvodaya prayer every Friday. Regular speeches on the life of Indian leaders. The students run a parliament themselves, and each of the ministry and ministers take care of their area of work. Particular academic help, attention and extra hours coaching for students who need it, continuous assessment, emphasis on and activities for harmonious community work, programmes and competitions for bringing out the talents of the students are some of the endeavours of the school to improve the quality of education given.
