Currently, the Unit supplies (under the brand name of Lakshmi Seva Sangam) Siddha and Ayurveda medicine to the government run Primary Health Centres across Tamilnadu. This unit generates wealth in villages and village communities through its manufacturing cycle. The herb collection is done by traditional herb collecting village communities and processing at the centre and currently, marketing through a network of NGOs is being promoted through the SHGs network across Tamilnadu. The SHG marketing offer Siddha & Ayurvedic medicine for common ailments are a household memory in villages for long. However, as the medicines are not available, this memory is fast disappearing. The Siddha & Ayurveda Pharmacy has embarked on a new marketing move to make available the most common of medicines in villages through the village women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Through this initiative, the Gandhigram Trust will provide the SHGs with: - Sales commission for the medicine sold in the villages, so as to enable the marketing effort as an village enterprise - Impart a short-term training on the medicines, its use, and sales promotion methods, to the SHGs - Reimburse the SHGs with advertisement cost Other activities include: - Conducting medical camps in rural areas for promoting traditional practices of Siddha and Ayurveda as well as their value.
